Terms of use
Last updated 26 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use yucast. By using the site you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
Who we are
yucast is run by a sole trader in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). You can reach us at support@yucast.app.
Using yucast
You can listen to a few stories without an account. To keep going, you sign in with a link we email you. yucast is free to use, within limits on how much you can listen to or create that may change. Pro, a paid plan, lifts the limit on listening.
You must be at least 13 to have an account. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian should read these terms with you.
Our stories and audio
The stories, translations, pinyin and audio on yucast are ours or used with permission, including stories written by tutors. You can use them for your own learning, and share links to them. Please don't copy, download in bulk, republish or sell them, or use them to train other software.
Our stories are written and checked with the help of AI and synthesised speech. They can contain mistakes in the Chinese, the pinyin, the English or the pronunciation. If you find one, report it with the flag on the story, or tell us. yucast is a practice tool, not a qualification or a substitute for a teacher.
Stories you write in Studio
Studio is for tutors. What you write there stays yours. You give us permission to store it, process it (including sending it to the AI and speech services that fill in pinyin and English and make the audio), and show it to anyone you share its link with, for as long as it's on yucast.
If you send a story to the library, we read it first and may accept it, send it back, or correct its pinyin and English. If we accept it, you also give us permission to offer it to every learner, credited to the name you give us. You can't edit or delete a library story from Studio, so learners hear the version we read. To change or remove one, get in touch. That permission goes on after you delete your account: your library stories stay in the library, without your name, unless you ask us to take them out.
You're responsible for what you write: you need the right to use it, and it mustn't be unlawful, hateful, sexually explicit, or harmful to the students you share it with. A shared link is unlisted, not private: anyone who has it can listen. We may remove content that breaks these terms.
Pro
Pro is yucast's paid plan. It takes away the weekly limit on new stories, and lets you create stories of your own, up to fifteen a week. It costs £3 a month, or £29.99 a year.
Pro is sold by Polar (polar.sh), who sell it on our behalf as the merchant of record: you buy it from them, they take your payment and handle sales tax, and their terms apply to the purchase as well as these.
Pro renews each month or each year, whichever you chose, until you cancel it. You can cancel at any time from your profile, under Plan. Once you've cancelled, Pro lasts to the end of the month or year you've paid for and isn't charged again.
If Pro isn't for you, email support@yucast.app within 30 days of first paying and we'll refund it in full.
When Pro ends, new stories go back to fifteen a week and you can't create more of your own. Everything you've heard, your streak and progress, and every story you created stay yours to listen to.
Things you mustn't do
- Get around the limits on listening or generating, for example with several accounts.
- Access yucast with bots, scrapers or other automated tools, or put it under unreasonable load.
- Try to break into, probe or disrupt yucast, or anyone's account.
- Use yucast to break the law or to harm anyone.
If you do, we may suspend or close your account. We'll tell you why unless we can't, for legal or security reasons.
Changes and availability
We're improving yucast all the time, so features, stories and limits will change, and some may be removed. We try to keep it running, but can't promise it will always be available or free of errors.
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll email account holders before it takes effect. Carrying on using yucast after that means you accept the new terms.
Ending
You can stop using yucast at any time, and delete your account from your profile. We can close yucast or end these terms with reasonable notice, or straight away if you've seriously broken them.
If you have Pro, deleting your account ends it straight away. To use the time you've paid for, cancel Pro instead and delete your account once it runs out. If we close yucast, or your account for any reason other than you breaking these terms, while you have Pro, we'll refund the part you've paid for and not had.
Our responsibility to you
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't let us limit.
Otherwise, we're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We aren't responsible for losses that weren't foreseeable, or for business losses: yucast is for personal learning. Our total liability to you is limited to the greater of £100 and what you've paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim there. If you live elsewhere, you keep any protections your local law gives you.
